Gloria Steinem, activist, writer, and founder editor of Ms. Magazine, is one of the most influential thinkers of our time. For more than 30 years she has been a strong advocate for women's issues while supporting movements for civil rights, peace, and economic justice for all. Her compelling presence as a social activist and journalist has persuaded people of differing political beliefs to unite behind the fundamental justice of gender equality. Her eloquent voice has motivated men and women to work for political and personal growth. For her unrelenting struggle on behalf of equality for all, Southern Methodist University is honored to confer upon Gloria Steinem the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.
